Hi.

Welcome to my blog I share my thoughts on what I’m watching, reading, eating, and everything else.

What I'm Watching: The Ultimatum Season 2, Episodes 2 through 10

“S2:E2 - E10 “

What a mess. First of all, are Nick and Vanessa really hosting this? Not to be ageist, but these two are elder millennials if not Gen X, very out of touch, and some of these couples are younggg. There is no way Ryann and James know anything about 98 Degrees or what an MTV VJ is.

Let’s get to it.

Lisa and Brian

Unfortunately, Lisa and Brian decided not to go through with the rest of the experience. I was really looking forward to seeing this trainwreck in particular. From the 1 episode and reunion they appeared in, here is my opinion: Tiffany is an old bitter b*tch. And I say this a feminist and someone who is older than her. So much hater energy towards Riah, and definitely not a girl’s girl. Corny. Lame. Booooo. Tomato tomato tomato, I’m throwing tomatoes. As for Brian, I’m not surprised he is still not marrying his baby mama. I stand by all my original thoughts on him.

For the first time ever, all couples who went through this experience left engaged to their original partners. Do I believe all of these couples will actually go through with a marriage? Absolutely not.

Roxanne and Antonio

Under no circumstances did I see Roxanne saying yes. When Alex and Antonio were having their “talk,” and Alex said Roxanne didn’t respect Antonio, I didn’t see the big deal because from what I saw, that was true. She may not have said those exact words, but c’mon. Antonio is a little puppy who wants nothing more than to be the best “good boy” for Roxanne, and until he can add financial provider to his resume she’ll never see it for him.

Ryann and James

Of course these two ended up engaged. I was surprised Ryann entertained the “possibility” of her trial marriage with Trey so much though. It was a little weird. James shared on the show that he deals with self-harm, gave some insight into his traumatic upbringing, and how he cheated on Ryann in the past. He also didn’t speak to Riah for like a whole week in their trial marriage, so clearly some communication issues. All of this on top of them being so young? I don’t see this marriage being successful without a lot of support from mental health professionals, individually and as a couple.

Riah and Trey

I didn’t think Riah would say yes to the proposal. She had a hard time dealing with the fact that Trey developed feelings in his trial marriage, and honestly I would too. But would I ever sign up for a show where my partner LIVES and pretends to be married to someone else for 3 weeks? Hell to the nah. I am pissed Trey didn’t speak up for her in the reunion when Lisa was being so rude. I don’t believe in gender norms, except for when I'm judging other people’s relationships on reality tv...especially the heterosexual ones. Take up for your woman the same way Brian was trying to gloss over how much of a bitch Lisa was, dassall.

Kat and Alex

I don’t see this working out but I wasn’t surprised Kat said yes. Alex gives me narcissist vibes and I knew the trial marriage with him and Roxanne would blow up because they are the same people. In every scene Kat was in she had this open mouth smile and subtle agreeable head nod going on every time someone was speaking. I never really heard her speak, even when she was in her trial marriage with Antonio, it was just a lot of agreeable head nods and the such as. Textbook victim of a narcissist like Alex. I wish her well.

Final Thoughts

The queer version of this show is superior. These couples were boring, no one had sex with their trial marriage partner and fell in love in 3 weeks like the lesbians did. I do appreciate Netflix putting all the episodes out at once though, super annoying to have to split this dumb show up over the course of a few weeks. If I want to lose brain cells watching reality tv, just let me get my big fix all at once and then go back to being the better version of myself after!
